This & That

A few random things....about New Orleans:

There are palm trees.  B has a banana tree in her backyard!  Make banana bread yet, B?

B has a "shotgun house" (sort of), which traditionally means there is one hall that passes through every room, front to back.  In some of the old ones, you have to walk outside on the porch to get to the bathroom.  Cool!

She also has a random door that doesn't open...but if it did, it would hit the house next door, anyway.  Love these old weird buildings, they remind me of the one I grew up in.

Much of the architecture in New Orleans is actually Spanish, although people often mistakenly believe it to be French.

The dead are buried above ground in New Orleans, because it is technically below sea level (as you should know), and the water table is so high that the dead used to literally "rise" when buried in the ground.  During floods, the coffin air would lift them out of the ground.  Pretty gruesome!

There is an open-container law.  That's what I said, you can walk around the streets drinking.  You can get shots "to go".

So go!
